The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, August 28, 1963 (@ Bettmann/Corbis)
comments,
- By some accounts, as many as 300,000 people assembled here 50 years ago...""For jobs and freedom, and much more
- A half-century later, it may be difficult to understand just what a watershed event this was.""Take a brief trip back in time for some context
- The leader of this march was already a well-known civil rights activist when he took the podium.""The speech he gave is now regarded as a defining oration of the civil rights movement
- What does it look like when hundreds of thousands gather...""Around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool?
